Charges filed in the Riza
Aziz, the stepson of former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak has been arrested on Thursday in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
He was accused of receiving $248 million into Swiss bank accounts from the Malaysian state fund 1MDB, being controlled by his step-father Najib.

Along with Aziz, his stepfather has been accused of abusing power, breach of trust and money laundering.
While his mother is also been detained for tax evasion and money laundering. Both have denied the charges.
In 2009, after joining the office, Najib set up the 1MDB fund to finance development in Malaysia.
But it accumulated billions in debts and U.S. investigators allege at least $4.5 billion was stolen from the fund and laundered by Najib’s associates.
Prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram told reporters in a statement that the money received by Riza came from 1MDB.
Money from the firm was exchanged between two companies which were previously engaged in the scandal.
Earlier in 2017, the company agreed to pay a $60 million to the U.S. government to settle a civil lawsuit involving the funds for all three studio films.
Near about $57 million of that amount was returned to Malaysia, as reported by the Financial Times.

A late-year during elections, Mr Najib was ejected from the power that accompanies in the first change of government in Malaysia for six decades.
The reason was stated as his presence in the 1MDB scandal.

Riza denies the charges. His wife and Riza’s mother, Rosmah Mansor, also has pleaded not guilty for the charges filed against him of money laundering and tax evasion. But until now, her trial date hasn’t fixed.
Riza’s family has come to limelight as they were linked to multiple charges linked to misappropriated 1MDB funds.
