Why Are Netizens Canceling Demon Slayer Season 2 On Twitter?

The world of anime is not strange from instances of the rising cancel culture. The incredibly popular anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba has recently been in the limelight over their controversial character design of Nezuko. Any follower of Social media would’ve noticed that Demon Slayer has been “canceled”. If you want to find out more about the controversy surrounding Demon Slayer Season 2 and why it is being canceled then read on.

Why is Demon Slayer Season 2 being “canceled” by netizens online?

To put it bluntly, Demon Slayer Season 2 has been under hot waters following the new character design of one of the characters, Nezuko Kamado. Nezuko is the sister of the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado. She was turned into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji.

In the recent episodes, her fight with Daki transformed her into her “Awakened Demon Form”. The controversy begins with some viewers claiming that she gains an adult body in her  “Awakened Demon Form” but continues to wear her smaller Kimono exposing more skin than many fans felt was appropriate.

The fact that the character is in her teenage years, between the ages of 13 and 16, has added to the character’s controversies. A New York-based teacher complained that designing characters in this manner sent a ‘weird message.’

“I’ve taught classes of 9-12-year-old girls who all LOVE anime and think Demon Slayer is the coolest thing in the world, & if you think designing female characters like this isn’t sending them a weird message please touch the grass,” he tweeted.

He also dismissed arguments about the character being an ‘adult’ and asserted that there was ‘no reason to do so.”

“If you sexualize or call Nezuko waifu since the new episode, just know you’re a borderline p****** because she still looks AND SHE IS 14,” another user added.

In a recent video, popular YouTuber ‘ForneverWorld‘ addressed the controversy, explaining that “During the battle, her body started developing somewhat, and it caused a massive controversy in the anime community.”

He further added that “People are talking left and right, like ‘Oh my god she’s only 14 or 15, why are they giving her these attributes?’ even though that’s been a common theme in anime since the dawn of time.”

In response, some fans have claimed on social media that “she is not a minor in this phase [Awakened Demon Form]” – however, this is not clarified in the original manga series.

The new character design has certainly sparked a lot of mixed reactions from netizens online. It now begs the question of whether Demon Slayer Season 2 is going to get canceled or not.

The Demon Slayer production team and its associates are yet to comment on the recent social media controversy. Meanwhile, let us take a look at the chances of Demon Slayer Season 2 getting canceled becoming a reality.

Is Demon Slayer Season 2 going to be discontinued?

Well, the answer to that question is No, Demon Slayer Season 2 is not getting canceled and will not be canceled before it reaches the end. There were two sources of rumor for Demon Slayer Season 2 getting canceled.

The first one is that Natsuki Hanae, the show’s main voice actor, was isolated after coming into contact with a COVID-positive person. And, while isolation isn’t a serious issue, it worried fans, even though the scare wasn’t based on anything real.

Natsuki stated that he had his recording equipment with him so that he could continue recording Tanjiro’s lines, implying that his isolation would have little effect on the regular broadcast schedule.
