Who Was Cagliostro and How OBengh Was Related To Him?

Marvel dropped the 4th episode of What If…? Doctor Strange lost his heart and not his hands. The episode had a distinctive approach in comparison to earlier ones. An interesting character from Marvel Comics managed to mark the significance. It was none other than Cagliostro.

Who was Cagliostro?

Cagliostro was a sorcerer who speculated his real name to be O-Bengh. OBengh ruled a kingdom in India around 1000A.D. He was in quest of the immortality elixir. He was a teacher to Doctor Doom who killed the immortal Egyptian wizard and usurped his form. He had a history with Dracula which led to him adopting the name Cagliostro.

Around 1760s, Cagliostro went to Paris. He managed to get his hands over Sise-Neg’s notes. He combined his ideas from Darkhold and Doctor Doom which gave birth to the Book of Cagliostro. 

What was his significance in this episode?

Ancient One had split Dr.Strange into two-time lines. One of them goes on the hunt for the Lost Library of Cagliostro, where he ended up with a person who called himself a librarian for the books of Cagliostro, and his name was OBengh. So that pretty much sums up that he himself was Cagliostro. later becoming the evil Dr. Strange. In the end, the books at the Lost library guided Dr. Strange on how to break absolute points from the timeline.

Cagliostro is said to be one of the most powerful and skilled magicians of the 18th century. The character promises to play an integral role in the upcoming 2022 film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
