KTLA News in Los Angeles, California reported that Thor actor Joseph Gatt was arrested in Los Angeles last week after engaging in “online sexually explicit communication” with a minor, according to LAPD detectives. He was arrested on April 6 after also having a separate but similar warrant outside of California.
Gatt had a role in Marvel Studios’ Thor in 2011, playing one of the villainous Frost Giant warriors from Jotunheim.
Gatt is also set to play a small role in the DCEU’s Black Adam, which will arrive in theaters on October 21, 2022.
On top of his time with Marvel and DC, Gott also has voiceover credits in two of the Star Wars: The Old Republic video games.
What Lies Ahead for Joseph Gatt?
Even though there is plenty to look forward to within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, stories like this one are always troubling to see in the news streams. Warner Bros. already has a difficult situation on its hands thanks to the issues surrounding The Flash star Ezra Miller, and this story only adds another level of disappointment for fans as the comic book movie genre expands.
Joseph Gatt only had a few minutes of screen time as a Frost Giant in the MCU’s Thor movie, which kicked off Chris Hemsworth’s time as the God of Thunder more than a decade ago. There is no word on how big his role will be in the upcoming Black Adam, but this puts him and that film both into an enormously difficult situation.
Should the charges against Gott prove true, it would effectively end his career in Hollywood for the foreseeable future. Sex crimes are an especially serious deal, and especially considering the raised awareness surrounding the issue in this day and age, it’s something that can’t be taken lightly.
While no judgment can be passed until the situation is fully resolved, will remain in the spotlight for the foreseeable future.
Marvel Studios will add to the Thor franchise with Thor: Love and Thunder, releasing on July 8. Black Adam will then come to the big screen on October 21.
