The Haunting of Bly Manor was released in Netflix on the 9th of October. The streaming giant released this series as a sequel to the hit supernatural horror series, ‘The Haunting of Hill House’.

Hill House

The series is out, and so are the reviews. The series is not up to its predecessor but doesn’t disappoint its viewers. The first one in this supernatural anthology was scary to an extent where many people shrieked when they just heard its name. While the later fails to do it, it doesn’t fail in the other areas.

Scare Factor

The Haunting of Bly Manor‘ is more of a puzzled and thriller story than a scary one. It has ghosts and supernatural phenomenon taking place just like the previous one, but the frightening factor is less. The series picks up its pace a little slow but steady and starts unravelling the mystery one by one.

Twists and Knots

The first one in this anthology had one death which connected to everything that was going on and the horrors of the Hill House. But Bly Manor puts a different spin and is equally thrilling but puts us in a constant state of confusion on what really is happening.

Trauma Makes Family

As the series picks up, they untie the knots and twists and show the personal tragedy and trauma each member in the Manor, have faced in their past. On the front, everyone is just normal, but when the past comes out to confront them, the trauma, the fear and everything that made them suppress it inside, it comes out to play.

Plot

The story revolves around an American Dani (Victoria Pedretti), who joins as an au pair looking after two orphaned kids who are sent to an enormous countryside Manor by their uncle in Bly, Essex. The first one revolved around one family, but this revolves around a family which is joined by the traumas and pain of their past. Along with these three are some other people living in the Manor, one would be the cook (Rahul Kohli), the gardener (Amelia Eve) and the housekeeper (T’Nia Miller).

Mystery

In Hill House, we get to see the death of the mother the act of supernatural and everything in the first episode itself making it enough for Steven Crain to write a best-selling novel around it. But Bly Manor gives us a glimpse of stuff and keeps introducing puzzles after puzzles to an extent where we are unable to leave until the entire 9 episodes are over.

Victoria Pedretti

Pedretti has been praised for her acting. The warm and lovely au pair she is with the kids, and the troubled, scared person she becomes when the supernatural comes knocking at her mind has garnered her the attention of many critics.

The series diverts itself from the “Scare Factor” and concentrates on the dark secrets connecting the past to the present. The series is loosely based on a horror story written by Henry James in 1898 called “The Turning of The Screw”.
