In the recent episode, the first time when he was recruited by All For One as a child was shown. It is in this scene that we get to witness the revelation behind the grotesque history of the hands around his body.

It was exposed that the hands are actually the remains of his family that he had slaughtered. He feels mixed emotions of calmness and anger from those hands and experiences a strange attachment to them. He doesn’t remember his past before meeting All For One and can only see some glimpses of it.

The episode shows a flashback when he was a young boy, All For One had collected the hands of Shigaraki’s family. He explains to the child that he has a quirk that led to killing his family. And wearing the dead family’s hands makes him feel connected to his broken past.

The puzzling feeling of rage but tranquillity makes him tap into it and feel a sense of affinity. This horrific explanation makes sense that this disturbance has been driving him the entire time, and it all started with this distressing origin.
