Sherlock Will Be Back With Season 5: What To Expect From The New Season

BBC released the fourth season of Sherlock back in 2017, with an ending that could almost be the series finale itself. But, there is still a possibility of a fifth season.

Sherlock is a modern take on the most famous detective in the world, which has attained a lot of fame and accolades from audiences as well as critics.

What happened in Sherlock Season 4?

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular lead, the show also has Martin Freeman, who plays Sherlock’s friend and assistant, Doctor Watson.

Each season till now has had three episodes of 60 minutes each, based on the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle.

The finale of the show’s fourth season seemingly took a little more liberty than other episodes and used references to a few other cases of the detective.

This ended up overpowering the essence of the whole season.

Is Season 5, a possibility?

Season 5 of Sherlock remains a possibility, with a ton of sources along with current social issues as material.

The season could also probably address such issues in its signature style. But there remain some hurdles that could either delay the season or leave in perpetual oblivion.

Even though Mark Gatiss, the co-creator of the series had said in 2017 that all the major people involved in it are willing to return for the next season, the biggest obstacle in the way could be their schedules.

The release date of Sherlock Season 5:

In hopes that their schedules align soon, the next season of Sherlock could be slated to release as early as 2022.

This could also be pushed back by the schedule of the BBC network, considering they wouldn’t want their attention to sway from the other projects already in the works.

The story of Season 5:

As mentioned earlier, the final episode of Sherlock Season 4 added a few references to other cases. This seemed to leave the basic logic of the story out of it and rather made it a huge mess that neither appealed to the audiences nor the critics.

However, the final scene does show Sherlock and the faithful Doctor Watson doing what they do best- solving the cases of those in need, rather than getting involved in other issues.

The sequence also had some references to the classic cases of Arthur Conan Doyle’s books, including “The Case of the Dancing Men,” along with others.

The new season could take the viewers back to the basic roots of the whole series and have the two characters simply using their geniuses to solve the many cases they used to in the first couple of seasons.

All that the makers need to do is to stick to what they used to do and make things right in the next season, by giving Sherlock and Watson interesting and mysterious cases.
