Shane Gillis in SNL Controversy:
Actor Simu Liu, a Canadian national with Chinese heritage, recently called out SNL cast member Shane Gillis.
In yet another SNL Controversy, Gillis is caught by many for using racial slurs. In a podcast, Gillis was heard mocking Asian-American citizens in New York’s Chinatown.
Gillis is also famous for making many derogatory remarks about women. Moreover, he has a history of being similar comments about the LGBT community, as well as Muslims. In addition to all this, he particularly defends all of his actions by naming them edgy comedy.
Gillis’ Actions and Liu’s Comments:
It wasn’t funny then, and it sure as hell isn’t funny today.
This word has been used to dehumanize my people for over 150 years. You don’t get to use it in the name of edgy comedy.

Even though Shane Gillis has defended his remarks, Simu Liu does not seem to believe him. In a Twitter post, Liu explains that the racial slur that Gillis used has, for a long time, suppressed Asians in the West.
He further states that he hopes NBC will take action against Gillis soon. Many actors from the fraternity are siding with Liu over the SNL Controversy.
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings:
Liu’s upcoming movie Shang-Chi will also make changes in the character, thereby changing some questionable elements in it.
It will also rework the hero’s backstory, even though Marvel has not created an offensive character. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will have influences from the recent events.
In the movie, Shang-Chi will be more of a secret agent than the usual Kung-Fu movie hero. This is something completely different from the usual ways of the characterization of such heroes.
In the comics, Shang-Chi has skills in martial arts. His father raises him and trains him as well. But in a turn of events, Shang-Chi learns that his father is a Chinese crime lord and an immortal sorcerer. He also finds out that his father has tried to conquer the world many times.
Following this, Shang-Chi finally ventures into the outside world to bid on his father’s behalf. There, he comes to know about his father’s wrong-doings and thus fakes his own death. He also embarks on a mission to take his father and his criminal empire down for good.
About The Movie:
Shang-Chi was introduced in the Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973. The movie, with the same name, will modernize the story to avoid the stereotypes of the character from that time.
Starring Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Tony Leung, Destin Daniel will direct the film. Regardless of the SNL Controversy, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will release on February 12, 2021.
