Scarlett Johansson Addresses The Hyper-Sexualization Of Black Widow

In an interview, Scarlett Johansson discussed the sexualization of Black Widow. The actor said that the Black Widow character has since then moved away from a sexual depiction.

The 35-year-old actor made her Black Widow debut in the cinematic universe in 2010. Making her first appearance in Iron Man 2, the actor was seen on-screen alongside Rober Downey Jr.

“The character is so sexualized” the actor stated. Looking back at Iron Man 2 was fun and great for Johansson but the portrayal of her character did not please her.

Sexualization Of Black Widow In Early Films

Ever since her introduction to MCU, Johannson says Black Widow has been sexualized out of context. However, the actor also said that over the years, she has moved away from that depiction after Iron Man 2 in 2010.

Johansson said her character is talked about in Iron Man 2 like a piece of possession, a thing, or an object. At the time, she also revealed that being labeled certain titles felt like a compliment.

However, the actor said that there are now many changes within Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff’s character. According to Johansson, Black Widow is now more mature and confident.

Progress In Character

Eleven long years after her debut, Black Widow is now getting her solo movie which will be out this year. Talking about this, Johansson revealed that the character has undergone a lot of changes.

The character has a lot of impact on her, and she also thinks that she has a lot of impact on the character. “It definitely has changed and I think part of that change has probably — it’s hard because I’m inside it, but probably a lot of that is actually from me too, ” she shared.

Johansson revealed that as she is now 35 years old, she is more forgiving and more accepting in the interview. This has brought a lot of progress in the character she is playing.

The actor also added that things are changing now. Young female adults are now getting braver and more educated about things like this. She said that the progress she has seen in Black Widow is “pretty cool”.

The new Black Widow film includes actors Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz in the cast. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, we will be seeing the film on-screen on July 9.
