Ryan Reynold’s Perfect Message To Rick Moranis’ Assault
Rick Moranis is one of Canada’s most beloved comedic actors. After his time on the cult classic sketch comedy series SCTV, he began starring in ’80s classic after ’80s classic: Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, Spaceballs, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids, just to name a few.
His career kept going until he went into near-retirement beginning in the ’90s — following the death of his wife in 1991, it became increasingly clear to Moranis that he couldn’t work as an actor and raise his two children as effectively as he wanted to at the same time.
After the 1997 direct-to-video sequel Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, Moranis stuck almost entirely to voice acting. Even then, there was a gap of ten years between his appearance as Bob McKenzie for Rush: Snakes & Arrows – Live in Holland and his brief appearance voicing Darth Helmet in the Spaceballs episode of The Goldbergs.

In September of 2020, fans were incredibly excited to see Moranis unexpectedly and briefly appear with fellow beloved Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in a commercial for Mint Mobile. It felt like maybe we were all in for the treat of seeing Rick Moranis regularly again!
We did hear about Rick Moranis almost immediately after the commercial — because he was assaulted on the streets of New York City.
Rick Moranis is okay, but we’re all pretty upset
On Thursday, October 1, the 67-year-old actor was randomly attacked in Central Park West by an unknown assailant. Police have been looking for the attacker who struck Moranis on the head, causing him to fall to the ground. Captain America actor Chris Evans seemed to voice the world’s collective sentiment when he tweeted, “My blood is boiling. Find this man. You don’t touch Rick Moranis.”

Yes, Moranis went to the hospital. And yes, he reported the incident to the police. The good news is that, despite what happened, he seems to be okay.
“He is fine but grateful for everyone’s thoughts and well wishes,” his representative said to The Hollywood Reporter. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some guilty feelings to be had.
Ryan Reynolds, who helped bring Moranis back into the limelight, took to Twitter as well, writing, “Should have known not to subject Rick to the year 2020. Glad to hear he’s okay.” Let’s be honest: in 2020, the year where it seems absolutely nothing is sacred anymore, don’t we all kind of think Reynolds should’ve waited until 2021?
