Ever since Sylvie’s character came in contact with Loki, we can’t help but notice the deep connection between the characters. With each episode, it was also seen that they have admitted their feelings as well as a connection towards each other. In the final episode of the series, they shared a kiss and confirmed the romance between Loki and Sylvie.

There are many theories about the intimate relationship between the two. Some fans strongly believe that their relationship is a double-edged sword and Sylvie only returned Loki’s affections in order to distract him. Some also think it’s a bit creepy because it could be considered incestual since they’re two Variants of the same being.

However, Loki’s director Kate Herron has confirmed that Sylvie’s feelings too were genuine. Therefore, this does cancel out a lot of theories raised. But what can we make of their relationship and how will it progress from here? Can it be considered as self-love or are we still hanging onto the romance between Loki and Sylvie being incestual theory?

What Does Director Kate Herron Think?

Speaking to Polygon, director Kate Herron also discussed the kiss scene as well as the relationship between the two characters. The filmmaker explained that she does not see their connection, feelings, or intimate relationship as “incestual.”

Herron explained that her interpretation is very different from being incestual. Rather, she said that this could be seen more as another aspect of self-love. “My interpretation of it is that they’re both Lokis, but they aren’t the same person,” the director shared.

Herron further stated that she does not see them as siblings. Even though they’re both Variants and they have the same destiny, they’re different. “I don’t see them as being like brother and sister. They have completely different backgrounds and I think that’s really important to her character,” she said.

Herron went on to acknowledge that Loki falling for Sylvie is an “exploration of self-love.” She mentioned said that all the Lokis that we have seen in the show are all “completely different” from each other even if they have certain similarities. “They’re not interchangeable,” she stated.
