Moon Knight follows the story of Oscar Isaacs’s Steven Grant as he grapples with the fact that he shares a body with a mercenary named Marc Spector, who later transforms into a superhero that acts as an agent for the Egyptian God, Khonshu. Isaac’s MCU debut is special in so many ways one of them being he portrays a character with a dissociative identity disorder.

Throughout Moon Knight’s promotional push, Isaac has expressed a strong passion for his Marvel character.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy actor previously called the show “(his) baby” while admitting that he hopes it blows the fandom’s collective mind. On top of that, Isaac also proclaimed that Moon Knight is the “best risk” he’s ever taken.

In the weeks leading to the series’ premiere, Isaac indicated that the upcoming series is the “first legitimate character-study” since 2008’s Iron Man, saying that “maybe this is the chance to do something really f*cking nutty on a major stage.”

Now, a new interview has revealed which MCU veteran gave Isaac advice about joining the franchise.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Pro MCU Tip for Oscar Isaac

Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac sat down to talk about his MCU debut and the great advice that Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. gave to him.

Isaac first admitted that he talked to Downey “a lot” about the MCU, with them discussing “what his sense of it is and how his process has been:”

Extra TV: “I hope the answer to this one is yes, but did you reach out to any current Marvel stars for advice on joining the MCU?”

Isaac: “I did talk to Robert Downey Jr. quite a bit. I talked to him a lot. I mean, he’s a friend already, and so just talking to him about it and just what his sense of it is and how his process has been and he was such a great great person to talk to, obviously about the whole thing. And also for me, the biggest inspiration, because to this day, still, that first Iron Man movie is just so good.”

When asked what Downey’s number one tip was, Isaac revealed that it was all centered around Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

The Dune actor revealed that Downey told him that Feige is a “genius” and a “collaborator,” stressing that he shouldn’t be afraid to “come in and give your ideas” about the project.

Oscar Isaac’s Bright MCU Future

Many would agree that getting advice from Robert Downey Jr. should provide an added boost to Oscar Isaac’s MCU tenure. It is also quite fitting that the Moon Knight star obtained guidance from the Tony Stark actor, especially after his “character-study” comparison to 2008’s Iron Man.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is best known for his collaborative work with the cast and crew of MCU projects. Downey, who worked with Feige for at least a decade during the Infinity Saga, is cognizant of the executive’s openness to any idea that would greatly improve the project.

Based on Downey’s advice, it’s safe to say that he made sure that Isaac was aware of Feige’s work ethic.

Looking back on past interviews, it seems that Isaac followed Downey’s advice. Feige previously revealed that Isaac himself “had a couple of outside-the-box ideas” that got their attention, saying “we were like, ’Maybe this could work..: And spoiler alert: they do.”

Isaac’s willingness to share those out-of-the-box ideas combined with Feige’s collaborative nature seems to be a perfect combination for Moon Knight, and the positive reviews of the show (so far) are a testament to that. In many ways, it’s reasonable to assume that Isaac has a bright MCU future ahead.

The first episode of Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+.
