Recently, “Iron Man” actor Robert Downey Jr. attended this year’s re MARS conference in Las Vegas — an event hosted by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

The theme was about how robotics, AI, and other advanced technologies could be the solution for reversing humanity’s destructive carbon footprint.

Robert Downey Jr. Announced A New Step

Robert Downey Jr. has shown his keen interest in Artificial intelligence and technology by announcing a new initiative called The Footprint Coalition.

He said it would help clean up the planet using advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics and nanotechnology.

“Recently, I was at a table with super smart, impressive, expert folks about six months ago, between robotics and technology, we could probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely within a decade,” he said, as quoted by Business Insider.

The announcement sounds something the fictional Tony Stark, the main character in MCU. It is speculated to officially launch by 2020.

With just a simple announcement, the buzz among people is high about how will it proceed and from where will the coalition get funding.

We got some clue with a website which went up with a simple sign up sheet. But that’s pretty much the extent of what we know about the effort.

Robert confirmed the speculations after he was tapped to create a documentary series on AI for Youtube Red.

Downey Jr. made it clear that he doesn’t only want to be part of the solution — he’s been a big part of the problem as well.

During the talk, Robert said, “I have this quiet sense of crisis, I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus.”

Robert Talks about Tony Stark’s Character

Hw thanked for his Marvel character, Tony Stark who boosted his knowledge of science and engineering:

“By Hollywood osmosis, for the last 11 years or so I’ve been steeped in the actual history of AI and space stuff as it happened and is happening in reality,” he said.

“I think it’s a great read. God, I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects,” he joked just like his popular character Tony Stark.

He made a statement about his future Marvel and told that future Marvel projects will fortune into anti-pollution projects using cutting edge robotic technology,

“I’m going to get actual smart people around me, and then in 11 years, when I’m 65, if we’ve made a notable dent in what I think is a massive threat to our future, I’m going to throw the nuttiest retirement party you’ve ever seen,” Downey told the crowd. “And you’ll be invited.”

The announcement was made while in a talk about AI. MCU who build Tony Stark’s character featured cameos from Amazon’s AI assistant Alexa, as well as Matt Damon, who joined via video.
