The head writer of the animated series mentioned the creation and evolution of Peggy Carter’s character in the animated series. Bradley also talked about how Peggy Carter will be different in What If…?. The head writer explained the character was completely deconstructed from the roots in order to be recreated.
“I feel like it was a real education of how to write an iconic character. How to take them apart, deconstruct them, find out what makes them tick, and then find new ways to tell the story,” Bradley mentioned. She also said that she is a big fan of “underdogs” and puts Peggy in the same category.
“I’m a big sucker for an underdog and, at times, that’s what Peggy Carter is. She’s the woman who was not supposed to be in the room,” she said. Bradley took a new turn with the character.
From being a woman who is seen in the shadow of Captain America, Peggy Carter is now transformed to Captain Carter. “She’s the woman who is supposed to be on the sidelines, pining for Steve Rogers. And we’re like, “No. We’re gonna show a woman who knows her worth, and see how that changes the world,” said the writer.
