Padma Shree awardee dies

Dr. Ashok Panagariya, a neurologist and Padma Shree awardee died on Friday.

He was on ventilator support in a private hospital for the last few days.

Dr. Ashok was 71 when he passed away on Friday.

He was discharged with ventilator support at 2 pm at the request of his family members and died at home at 3.46 pm, hospital sources added.

He leaves behind his wife, a son, and two daughters.

However, his condition deteriorated in the past two days and he died on Friday.

He was griefed by many in the nation.

Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to write a condolence message.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also expressed his grief.

He said that the passing away of Dr. Panagariya was a personal as well as a national loss for him.

According to him, Dr. Panagariya played an important role in the state as a medical expert during the coronavirus pandemic.

BJP state president Satish Poonia, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and other leaders also condoled his demise.

The Padma Shree awardee was born in Rajasthan in 1950.

He was born in a family of freedom fighters and was the son of Babu Lal Panagariya.

He had a very illustrious career and as a result, was well known in the Indian medical community.

For his dedication and work, he was awarded the UNESCO Award for medical/social contribution.

He was also an academician and has over 90 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Panagriya was awarded the civilian honor of Padma Shri in 2014 by the Government of India.
