MCU seems taking a shift from all time Avengers and focussing on Guardians of the Galaxy characters. MCU Cosmic has recently reported that Marvel has begun development on a Nova movie. Nova’s character was messed in Infinity War which is been their heads for a while.
Writers discussed Nova’s character
Writers of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely talked to The Hollywood Reporter about their initial plans for the epic. They put down a ton of different ideas for what might happen in the two films.
“I remember going through several scenarios of Nova. Thanos could come and kill all the Nova Corps, except one guy. Richard Rider, who then becomes … I think in that scenario he became the herald, kind of like the Hulk was [in Infinity War when he crashed into the Sanctum Santorum]. Someone who could come out and tell people.”
All these abandoned ideas were part of a sixty-page document, that Marvel still has somewhere. It’s possible some of those ideas could eventually make it to the screen. ‘Thanos’ decimation of Xandar would be the perfect origin for Richard Rider in the MCU.
The final version of Infinity War saw mention that Thanos and the Black order did decimate the homeworld of the Nova Corps, Xandar. Many fans have speculated, that Infinity War could have introduced Nova, who eventually could have been a part of Avengers: Endgame.
In the original comics, it was actually the Silver Surfer who warns Earth, but we had Banner deliver the message instead of after he was transported back by Heimdall. Though I’m sure a lot of comic fans would have loved to have Nova introduced.
If anything, the universe already has a good set-up for Nova, and it will only be a matter of time before we can get him. We know that Richard Rider gets his powers from Rhomann Dey—who is John C. Reilly’s character in Guardians.
House of M in the MCU
In the comics, House of M is a big X-Men event that sees Scarlet Witch having a breakdown and altering reality which sees her erase mutant powers from existence. McFeely and Markus came up with the idea prior to the Disney-Fox deal going through, that the storyline would obviously have to have been tweaked to accommodate the X-Men characters not being a part of the MCU.
During the production of Marvel’s two epics of the cinematic end, the Fox – Disney deal was in progress. So Marvel didn’t have rights to use X-Men characters at that time. So it’s pretty true to say to have House of M would bring some massive changes. It’s not totally clear from their remarks how they considered having it play a role in their two Avengers films.
From a long time, Nova/Richard Rider is rumored to join MCU. We can see future movies of Nova if writers are willing to explore her character. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has indicated the character might end up appearing sooner rather than later.
