Mehul Choksi Denied Bail, Termed as “Flight Risk”
Mehul Choksi was denied bail by the high court in Dominica.
Mehul Choksi was termed as a “flight risk”.
The high court also ruled out that Choksi did not have any ties with Dominica.
As a result, the court cannot impose conditions that will stop him from leaving Dominica.
He approached the high court after the magistrate had denied him bail.

He however got interim relief from immediate deportation to India from the high court.
The 62-year old will appear before the court on Monday.
He will face charges of illegal entry to Dominica.
Earlier the Dominican Prime Minister called Choksi an Indian citizen.
Roosevelt Skerrit stated that it was up to the courts to deal with Choksi.
Choksi was allegedly caught trying to escape to Cuba from Antigua.
He was living in Antigua since 2018 after leaving India.
The police arrested Choksi on a beach in Dominica.
The diamond jeweler swindled 13,500 crore rupees from the Punjab National Bank.
He scammed the bank by using fake loan documents.
His nephew Nirav Modi was also involved in this scam.
They have both been branded as fugitives by the Indian government.
Nirav Modi is currently jailed in London and is contesting his extradition.
Mehul is the owner of the Gitanjali Group which includes the Gitanjali Gems.
He took over the leadership from his father in 1985.
His younger brother Chetan Chinubhai Choksi owned a diamond company named Diminco NV.
The company had a debt of USD 25.8 million to a subsidiary of ICICI Bank.
