Kojima Production Confirms New Project

Kojima Productions is iconic game director Hideo Kojima’s development team. They have announced that work on a brand new project has officially started. In a tweet posted yesterday, they are now in search for the best in-house talent to work for their Tokyo studio—listings include everything from writers to game developers to network programmers, which you can check out here on their official website. All of these posts require fluency in Japanese.

Hideo Kojima is best known for his work on the Silent Hill series, which changed the world of horror gaming when it was first released. The cancellation of this series was inevitable after the fallout and subsequent split with Konami, an infamous incident that led to an uproar among fans—P.T., an incredible teaser which was fully playable had built immense hype for the future of the series.

Death Stranding, released for Playstation 4 in November 2019, and for PC on July 2020 via Steam and Epic Games Store, was Kojima Productions’ first game since the fallout. Kojima did not post many hints pre-launch, and the game now is considered a bizarre and quirky but a beautiful work of art; it had won the Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design and Outstanding Technical Achievement awards at the 23rd annual D.I.C.E. Awards on February 13. There had been hints at a Death Stranding sequel in September 2019, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Fans are hoping for a horror game, which is Kojima’s area of speciality. Due to his close connections with legendary Japanese horror artist Junji Ito, many are hoping for a collaboration on the new project—especially considering the fate of Silent Hill and P.T. The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus, who starred as the protagonist in Death Stranding, has also talked about working on future projects with Kojima Productions.

Kojima Productions had to shut down its office due to the COVID-19, with its employees working from home. If the studio is now looking to hire, it means that they are moving to full-fledged production; all we can do now is wait for them to release further news on the new project.
