Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and What Went Wrong In Their Relationship: A Timeline

Johnny Depp, 54, and Amber Heard, 34, met on the sets of the 2011 comedy “The Rum Diary” and were heard dating early 2012. In 2014, Heard was seen wearing an engagement ring. After several years of dating, in 2015, they had a private wedding ceremony at their place in LA.

The ‘poop’ that ruined their marriage

Later in 2015, one of the prime triggering incidents in their marriage was when a cleaner found feces in their bed in LA the morning after Heard’s 30th birthday. Heard claims to fight after the party ended and that Depp threw a magnum wine bottle at her. He denied the claim and said that the incident is when he knew their marriage was over.

Heard filed a divorce

In 2016, Heard accused Depp of physical abuse and filed a divorce against him. Depp obtained a restraining order and was declared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Heard alleged, at the time of filing a divorce, Depp threw his phone at her leaving her face bruised. After an investigation of this particular incident, a policeman reported no such event had taken place.

A 7 million dollar settlement was reached out in 2016 from the court. Depp and Heard released a joint statement, saying, “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain.”

Later, Heard donated the divorce money to charity, reports the People.

Finalization of Divorce

The couple finalized the divorce in 2017, a year after Heard filed it. The Hollywood Reporter reported that both parties had agreed to the clause of not defaming each other and their high profile relationship.

The Twist

In December 2018, Heard wrote about women’s role in domestic violence, an op-ed for the Washington Post. Heard wrote: “I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.

Depp sued Heard for defamation at the Washing Post article for 50 million dollars. He denied that he ever abused her.

Heard claimed she still has scars of abuse on her arms and feet, where Depp threw her over a ping pong table and dragged her over broken glass

Later, the Sun‘s issued a column under the headline “Gone Potty – How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?.Depp files a case against the News Group Newspapers and alleges that the article brought severe harm to his personal and professional life.

Depp eventually loses the case by Heard, giving evidence and concluding that NGN has proved the article was “substantially true.”
