Headlines like these were all over the internet yesterday.

Fandango says “Endgame” sold five times as many tickets on Fandango during its first seven days of advance ticket sales as “Avengers: Infinity War” during its first week last year.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a record amount of fans reporting sick to work or taking the day off on Friday, April 26 because they’ll be attending opening day screenings of Avengers: Endgame, said Erik Davis, the managing editor at Fandango. With 16 days to go before the film’s release, thousands of showtimes are already sold out and theater owners are adding new ones to their lineups Fandango said.

“Endgame” has continued to break box office records since presale tickets went on sale April 2, exceeding first-hour and first-day benchmarks on Atom Tickets and Fandango. On Tuesday, Atom Tickets said that during its first week of sales, “Endgame” had sold nearly twice as many tickets as Aquaman, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel combined.

ESTIMATES AND PREDICTIONS

Endgame is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Fans are looking forward to finding out what happened after the events of Infinity War, in which half the heroes disappeared into dust. It could possibly serve as the last film for several of Marvel’s most iconic characters.

Analysts are expecting “Endgame” will have the highest opening weekend gross at the box office. Estimates have the film’s haul pegged at $260 million to $285 million. Currently, the highest grossing film debut is “Infinity War,” which earned $257 million in its first weekend.

The superhero extravaganza has enjoyed the biggest first week in history in terms of presales. Marvel and Disney’s Avengers: Endgame has sold more advance ticket sales in its first week. It is more than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the previous Fandango record holder. And it is already outpacing Avengers: Infinity War 5 to 1. That’s after the superhero extravaganza, directed by the Russo brothers, sold more tickets in its first 24 hours than any other flick in history.

BUILDUP TO THE PREMIERE

Endgame begins playing in previews on the evening of April 25, a Thursday. Fandango reports that thousands of shows are sold out throughout the weekend, prompting theater chains to add more screenings around the clock.

The big question mark — Endgame runs three hours and one minute, the longest of any MCU title and meaning one fewer showtime a day. Endgame is also expected to set a new record for the largest global opening ever, as unlike Infinity War,  it will open in China on the same day as the rest of the world.

An $800 million global opening is highly likely, and Endgame has an outside chance of becoming the first film ever with a $1 billion global launch! Disney and Marvel will try to compensate by booking as many screens as possible within any given multiplex.
