Is Alex In The Sandman Dead? Did Paul Help Morpheus Get Out?

Alex’s character in The Sandman had a conscience from the beginning of the series, but we never got to see him finally release Morpheus out of the cage voluntarily.

Is Alex dead in The Sandman?

When finally, Morpheus gets out of the cage he was trapped in for over the century, which Paul predicted happening, he gets out and takes out the security guards and, in the end, puts Alex in a long eternal dream with pain.

So, in theory, now, Alex is immortal, but he cannot wake up or sleep peacefully; nightmares and pain will torment him for a really long time.

Did Paul help Morpheus escape?

The thing about Morpheus’s escape is that we saw what Alex was saying; that was his last visit to the basement.

But things didn’t pan out that way as the wheelchair left a gap in the protective circle around the cage, which Paul saw and ignored.

We don’t know if he wanted that to happen to know Morpheus won’t let him live no matter what, or just did it out of the kindness of his heart.

Whatsoever was the reason, Paul was well aware that Morpheus could escape with what happened when he and Alex last visited the basement.

Did Paul want Alex dead in The Sandman?

This remains one of the unanswered questions of season 1. Even though we get to see him as only the loving one since the beginning, we can’t help but wonder if he really just wanted to release Morpheus no matter what, or did he want Alex gone, and he did it this way?

Maybe we will know later, but Paul did seem broken when he saw Alex being put in an eternal dream, so there is no exact proof that he wanted to harm Alex.

Maybe he just pitied Morpheus and wanted him out of the cage.
