Idris Elba Teases Future of Heimdall in MCU

Heimdall

Heimdall has been a fairly popular and memorable member of the MCU’s supporting cast. Portrayed by English actor Idris Elba, Heimdall appeared in two Avengers films also in all four Thor movies. And as the all-seeing gatekeeper of Asgard, he had a crucial part to play in some of those stories.

However, a surprise post-credits cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder revealed Heimdall still exists in the halls of Valhalla and has renewed interest from fans in seeing Elba take on the role again. Now Idris Elba has suggested this might not be the last Marvel fans see of his Asgardian, with a possible future MCU project already in the works.

Heimdall

While promoting his latest film, Beast, Idris Elba was asked by Syfy whether he might be returning to the MCU to play Heimdall again. Idris Elba said that “Heimdall is a beloved character, I love playing him. There may be something cooking.” When pressed further on what exactly could be in the works for Heimdall, Elba said “I don’t know, I would tell you if I did. Well, probably not…”

While Heimdall now seems to be settled into life in Valhalla, it’s like he could still have adventures lying ahead of him in the afterlife. Alternatively, Marvel might want to travel back in time and tell earlier stories from Heimdall’s life, or maybe re-introduce Idris Elba as a different version of Heimdall from elsewhere in the Multiverse.

It’s not clear at this time just if, or how, Heimdall could return to the MCU. Maybe he could be revived in some form in the future. There have also been several movies set within the shared universe’s past, like 2021’s Black Widow, so he might appear in a project of that type.

There are countless possibilities for whatever Idris Elba is working on next with Marvel, but it seems like Heimdall’s time in the MCU isn’t over just yet.
