First Look At Snyder Cut’s Joker Is Chilling

Many DC fans are eagerly awaiting March 18 for the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max — and with good reason. Director Snyder‘s new version of 2017’s Justice League will be a one-shot four-hour-long film, featuring unseen footage and expanded storylines that were either trimmed or completely cut from the theatrical cut of the superhero flick.

Jared Leto’s Joker looks dark and deadly in new Snyder Cut images

Thus far, Leto‘s iteration of the Joker has only appeared in David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad, another property getting a reworking this year with the release of James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad. That movie featured the Clown Prince of Crime with neon-green hair, facial tattoos, a silver grill in his teeth, and more.

In the black-and-white images Vanity Fair released, Leto’s Joker looks nearly unrecognizable. He’s roughed-up and altogether darker than he once was — now sporting long black hair, black paint smeared around his mouth and eyes, and a hospital gown and mask hanging around his neck.

There’s no sign of the tattoos and slicked-back hair fans have come to associate with this version of the character.

Along with the new pictures, Snyder spoke with Vanity Fair about Leto’s role in the film. Spoiler warning for the plot of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Snyder shared that  the Joker will appear “during a sequence set on a ruined Earth after the alien tyrant Darkseid invades and decimates the planet,” a vision experienced by Batman.

According to Snyder, the scene is “Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman,” — something he believes that “fans deserved from the DC Universe.”

No matter how or why the Joker is going to fit into Zack Snyder’s Justice League, fans are definitely excited. They will have to wait and see what other surprises Snyder has in store with his version when it comes out on March 18.
