Fan Theory: Will Wanda follow the same arc as Daenerys Targaryen?

Will Wanda follow the same arc as Daenerys Targaryen?

At the end of Disney+’s “WandaVision,” we finally got to see the transformation of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) into the Scarlet Witch — a name she wasn’t called in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until that point.

While Wanda wasn’t the villain in the series, she was unintentionally holding hundreds of people captive, trapping the citizens of Westview inside her magical hex, so she wasn’t completely virtuous the whole way through.

The end of the series gave us only a hint as to Wanda’s trajectory in the MCU going forward: In a post-credits scene, she’s seen studying spells in the Darkhold, an ancient text full of dangerous magic.

The Scarlet Witch will return to the MCU in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” the sequel flick in which she could play a more villain-like role, if rumors are to be believed.

Since the powers that be at Marvel Studios are keeping the plot of “Doctor Strange 2” completely under wraps, we currently don’t much about Wanda’s role in opening the multiverse, and if she is a force for bad or good (or maybe even both).

However, one fan thinks they’ve cracked the case on where Wanda will go next. They have posted on Reddit a theory that compares Wanda’s arc to that of an infamous “Game of Thrones” character, which could give some insight into what we can expect from the Scarlet Witch moving forward.

Will Wanda follow the same arc as Daenerys Targaryen?

Reddit user u/whoawhoavicky is proposing that we will see the Scarlet Witch follow the same character arc as Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) from “Game of Thrones.”

Evidence in this theory cites how both Dany and Wanda were “extremely traumatized” from events in their past and expressed their grief from the loss of their loved ones in devastating ways.

The Redditor also notes that Daenerys became too powerful over time, with her desire to take the Iron Throne eventually consuming her and the tragedies she faced over the years turning her into someone she — and viewers — didn’t think she’d become.

It’s hard to forget how Dany – spoiler alert – used her dragon to burn down King’s Landing and murder thousands of people in the city at the end of “Game of Thrones” eighth and final season, after previously using violence only to liberate others or to punish oppressors and abusers.

Is Wanda on a similar path? One could argue that it’s a possibility. Now that Wanda has finally embraced her powers as the Scarlet Witch and is a practicer of Chaos Magic, there really is no one more powerful than her at this point.

The theory goes on to say that Wanda will likely rip open the multiverse (if she hasn’t already) and show the world her true power, which will then establish her as a global threat.

This would parallel Daenerys destroying King’s Landing, and how quickly she came to be viewed as a villain after being a hero for so long.

The theory ends by saying White Vision (Paul Bettany) might be the one to bring Wanda back down to Earth.

We’re just hoping that he doesn’t kill her like Jon Snow (Kit Harington) did with Daenerys because we’re absolutely not ready to say goodbye to Elizabeth Olsen in the MCU yet.
