Avengers: Endgame marks 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which sets out to wrap up everything in the MCU to date. Endgame is effectively the end of Phase 3 of the MCU, and as we learned last month, these films will be known as “The Infinity Saga”. While Spider-Man: Far From Home might technically be the end of Phase 3.

The movie says goodbye to some prominent superheroes who led MCU to one of the best comic in the world. Russo brothers directed the movie beautifully and intelligently with full of emotion and fights. But, the team has left with something…

Some latest MCU’s Post Credits.

Infinity War ended with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury contacting Captain Marvel on a pager. Ant-Man and the Wasp left Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang trapped in the Quantum Realm with his friends snapped to dust. Recently, Captain Marvel showed us Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers answering the pager’s call in the present, meeting the Avengers.

Post-Credits had become somewhat synonymous with the MCU since 2008’s Iron Man. Some of these sequences give the audience a hint as to what’s coming next in the MCU. It’s a neat moment, but again, not the sort of credit sequence fans are accustomed to seeing from Marvel.

Russo Brothers open on No Post-Credit Scene Criteria for Endgame.

Speaking to USA Today, the film’s directors Anthony and Joe Russo explained why they decided to break with MCU tradition and not add a scene during, or after, the credits.

“It was never in the cards,” Joe Russo said. “It was called ‘Endgame’ for a reason. This is it. This is the ending. The book is closed on that chapter of the Marvel universe and a new book will get written.”

“This was the first Marvel movie we’ve done where we weren’t thinking about the future,” Anthony Russo added, referencing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War, all of which they directed, and all of which had teased in the credits.

After the movie ends, Marvel fans have the habit of sticking to the seats until post-credits don’t show up. As the end of credits do bring something to them. But this time no credits but something new and special. It was hard to crack for the die-hard fans. There is an audio stinger when the Marvel logo appears. The metal hitting metal sound is open to interpretation. It’s the sound of Tony Stark building his first Iron Man suit, which the Russos put in there as a nod to what’s come before.

“It’s really just an homage, sort of a little bookend,” Joe Russo said. “It started it and it ends it.”

He thinks the sound can be interpreted as Marvel’s way of teasing fans that the “next phase is under construction.” Even though the Russos basically debunk it here, that’s is a neat way to look at it.

Fans already know MCU has its preplanned future. Believing the rumors, the upcoming movies a Black Widow movie, The Eternals, and more from Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and others. But the Russos, at the moment, have nothing to do with it.

Endgame is currently running in theaters and has grossed more than $1 billion in a week and still going. Its a superhit Avengers packed movie.
