The Novel

Dune is a science fiction novel written by Frank Herbert, which was published starting from1965. It’s a series of about six books and a story of one Paul Atreides, a space dynasty’s scion. The novel is very intricate, with details with complex characters and plot settings. There is just so much that needs to be enjoyed in the written word. The book series had a huge fan following and rose to a cult classic’s status in a few years. It was indeed a significant challenge to adapt the novel into a movie.

Director David Lynch made the first adaptation of Dune in 1965. He had the immense task of turning a cult classic novel into a cult classic movie. Yet sadly, the film was both a critical and box office failure. However, the movie cannot be neglected because it had tried to bring the complex story to the silver screen. Perhaps the most significant difficulties lay in staying true to the novels’ plot because the books themselves were layered. Much was hidden even from the characters. When a movie focuses only on exposition, it gradually slows down. Will the new movie tackle such hurdles?

The first looks so much promising for Dune 2020. With an epic cast of Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Issac, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, and Zendeya, to name a few, the first look promises that things will be different than the previous version. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Oscar winner French Canadian director, the movie is sure to be an epic. The director’s earlier film of the same genre, Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival, give us hints about what to expect. The trailer also gives us some details about what to expect space politics have with her, really gigantic space worms, and just so much more action. It seems that this adaptation will have a close connection to the book than the predecessor.
