Doctor Strange 2: Here Are The New Details From The Script

With Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe well underway, the direction of the franchise has changed dramatically. The Disney+ hit WandaVision teased a more magical side to the long-running series that will likely bleed into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Primed for a March 25, 2022 release date, story details, cast information, and the like are fairly scant at the time of this writing, but the title alone has raised plenty of speculation. What secrets, revelations, and potential horrors do the aforementioned multiverse hold for Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his fellow heroes?

Director Scott Derrickson was initially planned to helm the production but departed in January of 2020 due to creative differences. In response, Marvel Studios hired film icon and the man who brought Spider-Man to the big screen for the first time, Sam Raimi, as his replacement.

Considering his aptitude for campy horror and well-documented love for the Marvel Comics canon, Raimi brings with him a host of expectations for the Doctor Strange sequel. That includes a potential cameo from longtime collaborator Bruce Campbell, who appears in a host of Raimi’s projects.

From the moment Sam Raimi’s involvement was confirmed, fans clamored for Campbell’s inclusion in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. To feed into these hopes, the Burn Notice actor recently made quite an eyebrow-raising social media post.

Doctor Strange, meet Ash Williams

Bruce Campbell took to Twitter this evening and posted a picture of a supposed script page for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It describes the Sorcerer Supreme arriving at a cabin in the middle of the woods, then coming face to face with a man whose right hand is replaced with a chainsaw. “Who the hell are you?” asks the unnamed “Disheveled Man,” to which Strange responds that he’s looking for the Darkhold, “an ancient book of magic, a grimoire of darkness and evil.” The man asks, “Does it have a face on the cover?” leaving Strange to confusedly answer “Um…no…”

For Evil Dead fans, this is the crossover of a lifetime. Ash Williams arriving in the MCU? It doesn’t get much better than that! But the more you think about it, you have to wonder why Marvel Studios would reveal such a monumental scene so far ahead of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ premiere.

After all, they were able to keep a lid on just about everything relating to Avengers: Endgame before it came out, why is this any different? Well, all of these questions and more can be answered by taking a look at the date on which this tweet went live: April 1, 2021.

Once again, the iconic actor has trolled MCU fans to great effect, this time getting everyone’s hopes up with a fake script. For the time being, the plot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Bruce Campbell’s presence on its cast list, remain a mystery.
