Disney To Launch Pirates of the Caribbean Film Starring Margot Robbie

Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie will be joining writer Christina Hodson in a new, female-led Pirates of the Caribbean project for Disney.

Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie will lead the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie for Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie Birds of Prey will be re-teaming with writer Christina Hodson on a new, female-led Pirates of the Caribbean project. Details about the plot are not disclosed, but it is reported that the Disneyland theme park will heavily influence the movie’s characters.

The film is separate from the screenplay developed by franchise writer Ted Elliott and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin. Most notably, Elliott also wrote the first four films in the series. Jerry Bruckheimer will serve as the producer on both upcoming projects.

Robbie is best known for her role as Harley Quinn in both Birds of Prey and the 2016 Suicide Squad. She reprises the role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, too. Her previous credits include Tonya, The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bombshell and more.

Like Robbie, Hodgson is a celebrated name in the DC Universe. In addition to Birds of Prey, she is linked to Warner Bros.’ upcoming The Flash and Batgirl movies. She has written the critically acclaimed Bumblebee, as well as Shut In and Unforgettable.

Written by Christina Hodson, the unnamed Pirates of the Caribbean project stars Margot Robbie and has no release date as of yet.
