Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 1 Recap:
It starts a day before the Mugen Train was brought back in for business. Rengoku is enjoying his meal when one of his subordinates comes up and tells him about the Mugen Train incident. Apparently, there’s this demon named Slasher who has been murdering the passengers.
Rengoku decides to go and check on what’s wrong with the Mugen Train. On his way, he meets a young girl and her grandma who are selling bentos to make ends meet. And then, he ends up buying every bento they had to offer; Classic Rengoku.
After that, he goes on to check the Mugen Train at the maintenance station. There he finds a few workers fine-tuning the train’s engine. As it turns out, he finds a demonic scent from the train and is wary of it. While he’s distributing bento to everyone, one of the workers is captured by Slasher.
But there’s no need to worry as Rengoku is there. After seeing what Slasher is capable of, Rengoku says that he’s offended and seems pretty confident that he’ll defeat him. Both of them have a brief head-on clash; seeing how powerful his opponent is, Slasher makes a run for it to kill the young girl and grandma.
As the night is breaking and is making room for dawn, the young girl and grandma are opening up their bento shop. Unfortunately, Slasher spots the young girl first and tries to kill her, only to be interrupted by the grandma. The girl makes a run for it but Slasher catches up to her. And just at the right moment, the hero arrives.
The Classic Rengoku:
Slasher is cofounded, how was Rengoku able to catch up to him so fast? With haste, he makes a proposal to see who is faster. To that, Rengoku replies with Flame Breathing First Form – Unknown Fire.
After witnessing that form, grandma remembers that Rengoku also saved her and her daughter-in-law a few years ago. But it turns out that the person who saved grandma and the young girl’s mother was his father. This clearly hints at a backstory and how influential and impactful Rengoku’s father has been in his life.
Finally, everything goes back to normalcy. People are coming out and the streets look more lively from before. But, there’s a far greater danger on the Mugen Train and Rengoku decides to eliminate it. On his way to the train, he again bought a lot of bentos from the young girl and grandma. As I said, Classic Rengoku; my man is too good for this world.
And then, the episode ends with a few snippets from all the hashiras talking about how they feel about Rengoku. In the background, Inosuke goes on a friendly rampage and wants to fight the Flame Hashira. In all, a great setup for the Mugen Train Arc.
What can you expect in the next episode?
The title of the second episode is ‘Deep Sleep’ as shown in the preview. For those who have watched the movie, we know what exactly is going to happen.
In short, everyone on the train except Nezuko will enter into the realm of deep sleep, all thanks to a pretty powerful demon. While all of them are asleep, they’ll dream about their happy time with their loved ones. This is how the demon easily kills everyone but this time it’ll be different. I genuinely hope that this time the dreams are bigger and do justice to Rengoku’s character by giving more depth to the Flame Hashira.
