Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 17 Reveals Tanjiro’s Demon Slayer Mark
The battle between the Demon Slayers including the Hashira and the Upper Moon demons is rigged against the slayers. We saw how Tanjiro was the only one who could still move despite his injuries. The Sound Hashira had his hand cut off and was presumably dead after his fight with Gyutaro, who had also pierced Inosuke’s heart.
Zenitsu was lying beneath some rubbles and desperately trying to come out. However, Tanjiro was smart enough to use some tricks against his opponent Gyutaro and attempt to slash him while Zenitsu attempted to behead Daki. In the first attempt, it did not work and he was badly injured.

The moment when Tanjiro is almost about to be murdered, we see how Tengen Uzui defends him from Gyutaro’s crab-like blades. Then, we witness Uzui fighting the demon in a one-on-one battle as he creates the perfect opening for Tanjiro to behead the demon Gyutaro.
Tanjiro’s Scar Gets Bigger
When it seems like Tanjiro is too slow and weak to decapitate him, out of the sheer will, he persists with his assault. As his rage and determination become stronger, we can see the scar on his forehead becoming bigger as it spreads to other parts of his forehead.
Then, Tanjiro’s eyes become white as his strength increases manifold. This is a new ability that he has mastered which is called “The Demon Slayer Mark“. He succeeds in beheading Gyutaro with Tengen’s help while Inosuke and Zenitsu behead his sister Daki at the same time. The heads of the sibling demons lie on the floor.
The Demon Slayer Mark Explained
This is the first time that this new ability of Tanjiro is revealed. In fact, the immense strength and power that a demon slayer can get after activating the Demon Slayer Mark has never been revealed before.

The most accomplished Demon Slayers have an opportunity to get a secret tattoo, scar, or birthmark. Each Demon Slayer Mark has a distinct appearance that corresponds to the bearer’s Breathing Style. Ever since, Demon Slayer Mark has echoed and manifested by other Demon Slayers.
This paved the groundwork for the Demon Slayer Corps’ “Golden Era,” during which the Demon Slayers came within inches of slaying Muzan Kibutsuji. So, this ability could be the deal-breaker they need to defeat the Demon king, Muzan Kibutsuji.
