Centre To Provide Vaccine Free Of Cost For All Adults: PM Modi

Vaccine Free Of Cost: The Prime Minister addressed the nation on the evening of June 7. Speaking about vaccines and the country’s stand, PM Modi declared that all adults will be given the vaccine free of cost.

According to the announcement, the free vaccine policy will be implemented from June 21, 2021. The COVID-19 vaccines were made available to all adults starting from May 1. The vaccines were first given to frontline workers and citizens above the age of 45 on a priority basis.

Later, citizens above the age of 18 were declared eligible to get vaccinated. In the latest announcement, all adults above the age of 18 will be given vaccines free of cost. “It has been decided that from June 21, all adults over the age of 18 will be vaccinated free.” the PM said.

PM Modi further clarified the percentage of vaccines that are to be distributed to the state governments. He stated that 75 percent of the vaccine will be bought from the manufacturers by the central government.

“This arrangement will be implemented in the coming two weeks. In these two weeks, the central and state governments will together make necessary preparations according to the new guidelines,” the Prime Minister said.

Further, PM Modi said that the central government will do its best to help out the state. The Centre will also bear the expenses of 25 percent of the states’ quota and give them the COVID-19 vaccine free of cost.

He said, “State governments will not have to spend anything on the vaccine. Crores of people of the country have got free vaccine till now and now people of 18 years of age will also join it.”

PM Modi also capped the price of vaccines at Rs 150 for private hospitals that can obtain 25 percent of the vaccine from the manufacturers. So far, Covaxin, Covishield, and Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccines have been approved by the government for use in the country.
