Boruto Chapter 65: Kawaki Attains New Karma Upgrade
Boruto Chapter 65 ended on a shocking note for many readers who follow the manga. The chapter shows us a small peek into how Kawaki finally taps into the new power of his karma.
This is a question that has plagued us since the beginning sequence of both the manga and anime versions of Boruto where Boruto and Kawaki fight over the ruins of Hidden Leaf using the new powers of their karma mark.
In this chapter, we see Boruto, Kawaki, and Code battling it out. Code’s desire is for Momoshiki to get a hold of Boruto’s body again but when he gets his wish, it seems like he’s bitten off more than he can chew.
Momoshiki turns out to be way more powerful than anyone could’ve imagined. He even almost kills off Code, before he gets distracted by the arrival of Naruto and Shikamaru.
From the group, only Kawaki is safe since Momoshiki needs him alive to be fed to the Ten-Tails. Momoshiki suddenly decides to annihilate Code, Naruto and Shikamaru in one blow with a Giant Rasengan.
All along, we saw Kawaki being all somber and complaining about powerlessness, so it was easy to assume that he was going to get the short end of the stick in this fight. However, Kawaki surprisingly manages to turn the tables over at the last minute.

When Kawaki sees Naruto, his father figure being placed in danger, a new power from his karma mark is unlocked. Kawaki successfully manifests karma out of nowhere and absorbs Momoshiki’s attack. This all can be credited to his tremendous urge to save Lord Seventh.
But most importantly, the big question remains. How did Kawaki suddenly get this karma surge? As far as we know, it was extracted from him. To answer the question, we would have to bring in Amado as he’s relevant.
We’ve seen Kawaki and Amado having deep conversations regarding this topic. So, did Kawaki get this karma upgrade due to Amado?
The previous chapters in the manga built up the possibility of Kawaki soon unlocking his karma power. Amado offered to make modifications to Kawaki’s karma so he could use it as a weapon, all without the risk of Kawaki being transformed into an Otsutsuki.

Kawaki refused the offer but Amado’s verbal instruction about the mental process needed to unlock the power must have remained in Kawaki’s memory.
No doubt, Kawaki has managed to tap into some really powerful and new potential, but fans can’t help but wonder what it would mean in the bigger picture. What are the pros and cons?
To really get down into the answers for this puzzling karma upgrade, we might have to wait a while for the next chapter which is next month. The next chapter might show a flashback as to how Kawaki gained this power. Is it because of Amado’s help or did Kawaki just train really hard to reach this point?
One major thing is that if Kawaki has unlocked this karma upgrade, that means he is finally free of the control of Isshiki Otsutsuki. Thus, the chapter ends by setting up the next round of fighting, as Kawaki will deal with both Momoshiki and Code.
