Bleach: Romance between Soi Fon and Yoruichi Shihoin!
Soi Fon is the present captain of the Second Division, as well as the Omnitsukido (Stealth Squad). In Bleach, Yoruichi Shihoin was the ex-Captain of the Second Division. She acted like a sister and mentor to Soi Fon when she was young. They share a very strong bond with each other, even after a hundred years of separation.
It’s a well-known fact that Soi Fon is quite obsessed with Yoruichi Shihoin and swore to be by her side forever. However, her admiration and awe for Yoruichi turned to resentment and anger as she felt abandoned and angry for being left alone. She’s also obsessed with black cats and any merchandise related to that, as Yoruichi often takes that form.
We will be exploring the tight-knit relationship between Soi Fon and Yoruichi Shihoin in this article. Also, we’ll be highlighting the slightly romantic angle to their relationship, which is quite subtle but nevertheless there.
History of the Relationship Between Soi Fon and Yoruichi Shihoin
Soi Fon grew up as Shaolin Feng into the Feng Household, a lower noble house affiliated with the great Shihoin Noble Clan. It was a tradition in their family to join the Executive Militia of the Omnitsukido. Her older siblings had also joined the organisation. She decided to adopt the same code name, Soi Fon, as used by her grandmother.
She grew to respect and adore her captain, Yoruichi Shihoin and thus, felt the need to be as strong as her. Because of her intense hard work and skills, Yoruichi finally decided to keep her as one of her personal guards. Their relationship deepened further as they spent more time together. Soon, their relationship dynamic became that of the mentor and student.
During the ‘Turn Back The Pendulum’ arc, her relationships with Kisuke Urahara and Yoruichi Shihoin were revealed. She used to be very distrustful of Urahara and hated his carefree, easygoing nature. After Yoruichi ran away with Urahara because he was accused of conducting hollowfication experiments, she became bitter against her. She was determined to take revenge against her and vowed to capture her alive.
Their Fight in the Soul Society Arc
During the Soul Society Arc, the two had an intense battle where Soi Fon was determined to show her superiority to Yoruichi. She used her Shikai against Yoruichi and it seemed like she was getting the upper hand. However, when she released her partially formed Shunko, it was revealed that Yoruichi was still far superior in skills.
Yoruichi revealed that she had already devised this technique of Shunko, combining Kido and Hakuda. She easily dodged Fon’s attacks and didn’t even seem fazed. It became apparent that Soi Fon was mad at Yoruichi for being abandoned and then had an emotional meltdown in front of Yoruichi. Later, the two patched up and renewed their relationship.
