Avengers Endgame said goodbye to many popular Marvel characters including Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Steve Rogers aka Captain America and Natasha aka Black Widow.

Apart from losing Tony Stark, we had to watch Black Widow sacrifice herself for the soul stone to reverse the effects of Thanos’s snap. The only solace that fans have had is that there will be a solo Black Widow film.

And recently, photos from Black Widow’s film set in Budapest have been leaked online. Contrary to reports, the film seems to be set in the present day and not the past, going by the vehicles being used.

There are several pictures and videos. There’s even a 2017 BMW in one scene, which gives a dark hint in which timeline the film will be set.

There are several photos of Scarlett Johansson on set, either shooting or exploring Budapest.

That particular BMW was released in 2017. Unless someone’s made a big production goof, that places the Black Widow movie at some time after Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and before Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.

We can also see Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova riding a motorcycle in a series of pictures. Her character is said to be an equal of Black Widow’s but morally opposed to her.

Another set of pictures show The Handmaid’s Tale actor OT Fagbenle riding an armored vehicle, in full costume, perhaps as the villain Taskmaster.

The film is being directed by Cate Shortland and features Rachel Weisz, Ray Winstone in supporting roles. However, Marvel is yet to announce the film officially.

Scarlett Johansson has been playing the role of the Russian Spy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

MCU plans for Black Widow

Avengers Endgame was the culmination of a decade worth of storytelling and the end of the Infinity Saga.

The film focussed on the after-effects of Thanos’s snap and how the surviving Avengers fight to the death to reverse the impact of his snap.

The MCU timeline is a confusing beast, but those years are two certainties. Steve Rogers confirms as much when he mentions he’s been on the run for two years post-Civil War. A beard that nice doesn’t grow overnight, let me tell you.

But back to Black Widow. Far from the origin story some we may have suspected, this is perhaps going to be a way to help say goodbye to Natasha while not re-treading the same retro ground as, say, Captain Marvel in the 1990s.

Marvel Studios is expected to release details about Black Widow and other MCU movies at the San Diego Comic-Con happening next month. Black Widow is expected to hit cinemas on May 1, 2020.
