Avengers: Endgame Nearly Featured Captain America’s Decapitated Head

Highlights about Avengers: Endgame

To begin with, Endgame is the darkest entry in the franchise as it features the death of many prominent heroes.

One of the highlighted scenes was supposed to be Captain America’s decapitated head.

This was discussed in detail during the Comic-Con 2019 held in San Diego. Co-writer of the movie, Stephen McFeely said he had a mindset for the extremely dark moment.

There is a scene in the movie where Thanos comes through a hole created by Nebula.

The playing field for the final battle had to be decided here. McFeely suggested that she opens a time rift he walked through from 2014 earth.

This is the place where he has already been to and laid waste to the entire place. Now, the time will come for the entry of the heroes.

They will come out of the dust, seeing this character walking towards them. Adding further, Thanos enters and tosses something at their feet after crossing from light to the dark. It’s his head that rolls and lands at Steve’s feet.

The scene is the perfect match of a dark idea in Avengers: Endgame. One character was seen losing his head but there were further plans too. Plans were related to a second gruesome beheading in Avengers: Endgame.

Discussion in the panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019:

Before moving onto the discussion, we will first read about the prior planning. Earlier during the time-travel plot of the film, the Avengers try to reverse the Blip.

This was being planned by storming Thanos’s compound and acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet.

However, this plan failed as soon as Thanos reveals that he has destroyed the Infinity stones. In this scenario, Thor gets pissed-off and beheads the Mad Titan in a fit of rage.

Moving onto the discussion at Comic-Con 2019 the writers revealed a version of the script to Backstory Magazine’s Jeff Goldsmith.

The script mentioned the idea of decapitating the head of Captain America. The idea was to create the darkest scene in the movie.

This had to be implemented during the time-travel portion of the movie. Also, the same had to be done when Thanos was able to enter the Avenger’s portal.

A brief discussion about the scene:

Christopher Markus revealed in the news about killing the present-day Thanos. He insisted on getting the old Thanos into the present-day to build curiosity amongst fans.

Furthermore, the scene shows Thanos knowing it would take Nebula some time to organize the time machine.

The present-day was depicted to be 2014, where Thanos wiped it out and made an attempt to kill the Avengers.

Further, as soon as this act was committed, Nebula would arrange the time machine and he would walkthrough. He planned to take the Avenger he killed and say “I killed you, again, what are you gonna do about it?

McFeely added the corpse of the Giant man was kept in the background. This scene surely got goosebumps to the fans and the efforts were worth it.
