Adventure fiction series Gintama’s third and final movie, Gintama THE FINAL, will be releasing in Japan on January 8. However, exactly one week after the movie, there will be a new net anime special episode on the online streaming service dTV. This episode will also tie in with the events of the movie.

This announcement was made in a Youtube video by DTV’s channel, with protagonist Gintoki Sakata (voice acted by Tomokazu Sugita) complaining that the movie being promoted as the ‘finale’ of the series is just a method to hype the release; as well as protesting that this video doesn’t have any visuals except for his voice, and no content except for the release date of the special. No other details have been released so far.

Here is how Crunchyroll describes the show:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains, and motorbikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
